CHECK MY USDOT

The purpose of this data...

Our mission with DOT&GO is to make sure that people have the correct data and resources to do their own research and make their own choice.

This page is specifically to give you the information to file yourself through FMCSA. This process can be challenging for companies or owners who are not tech-savvy. We are family-owned, and we want to educate and make the process really simple and honest.

What is a USDOT number?

A USDOT is required for any vehicle over 10,001 pounds, including combined weight. It is also required for a vehicle transporting hazardous material and for transporting more than 8 passengers for compensation.

You are required to obtain a USDOT number if you have a vehicle that:

Has a trailer that puts you over 10k lbs. ****

  1. Transports hazardous materials requiring a safety permit in intrastate commerce (check 49 CFR 385.403).
  2. Has a weight of 10,001 pounds or more, or is designed to carry more than 8 passengers (including the driver) for compensation.
  3. Is designed to carry more than 15 passengers (including the driver), but not for compensation.
  4. Is involved in Interstate commerce, meaning:
    • Trade or transport between different states or a state and outside the U.S.
    • Transport between two places in a state through another state or outside the U.S.
